If your dog is between 8 weeks and 5 months old, Distinctive Dog Training has a special program just for you.
The Puppy Prep Program is designed to cover the basics of puppy training, house manners, nutrition, socialization
and general basic obedience. Dogs of any age can be trained, but if you can start a puppy during these critical weeks, you'll be leaps and bounds
ahead of the game when the adolescent months come along.
During puppyhood, dogs are helpless and totally dependent on their mums - and then you - for everything. Puppies stay close and look to
you during times of uncertainty while they are learning skills necessary to become an adult. At five weeks of age, a puppy's brain waves are
the same as an adult dogs. This is prime time for learning! Learning at this age is permanent and happens very quickly. At about 5-6 months of age,
dogs move into adolescence and become more independent - just like human teenagers. They begin to test their limits and boundaries and question
leadership. If you don't have a plan in effect by this time, you could be in for trouble! Dogs are most often given up during
adolescence because owners simply haven't set any boundaries or done any training to establish appropriate behaviors.
