Distinctive Dog Training’s behavior modification and training programs are all based on the most
humane methods possible. The basis of positive reinforcement training is to recognize
that the dog is doing something right, acknowledging that behavior with a marker signal (a clicker
and/or your voice) and rewarding. Training should be an enjoyable process for both dog and human.
You will create a wonderful relationship with your dog by building mutual trust and respect for each other.
Dogs exhibiting objectionable behaviors will be taught alternatives that are more acceptable
to the family. The first step in this process is the identification of the event that triggers
the problem behavior. Then with a combination of management and retraining an alternative under
controlled circumstances, your dog will learn to choose the right thing to do and be rewarded
for it. These methods are much more pleasant for everyone involved than to punish the dog for
breaking rules he never knew existed.
Testimonials
"I have two dear, little dogs. I have a 4 year old male who knew the basics, and a one year old female who knew nothing.
Training her on our own was going nowhere. We could not figure her out! She barked at everything, destroyed our furniture,
and did as she pleased. I knew she needed a professional. I found Barb after a lot of searching and liked how she used
positive reinforcement. After having Barb over for our one-on-one training, both dogs have more confidence,
listen and pay attention, and are finally well behaved! I was amazed at how quickly my little girl's behavior improved,
and my little boy was learning even more commands than I thought possible. I am still amazed at the results!
Thank you so much Barb!" -- Sarah S.
"We cannot thank you enough for your wonderful help. We have worked with a lot of dog trainers over the years,
but never one as effective as you. We agree it is because of your love and understanding of dogs/animals.
You are fantastic at what you do!" -- Tom C.
"We just had company at the door and Nonna did SO WELL! She stayed focused on me....sat and didn't growl, bark or jump. I'm so proud and happy...
With Barb's help, Nonna has become such a nice young lady. With continued work, I'm sure she will continue to improve." -- Tamyra A.
"Thank you for all of your help. You have been thorough and wonderful
and have given us the tools that we need to continue to work with Buddy. There is no doubt
that his behavior has improved.

"I just wanted to let you know how well Harley is doing since you were here.
We have had another round of company and lots of chaos in the house. Harley has been nothing but a dream this
time with all the "strange" visitors we have had. I can't thank you enough for helping
us to be able to deal with his behavior issues in a kind and therapeutic way, not one geared toward punishment and more fear.
I have continued to work with Harley as you suggested and we are still making progress.
Thanks again for making all of our lives easier!" -- Cherie E.
"The training you helped me with has helped so much. We can go for walks for miles and she does not pull.
She is doing much better and we are BOTH learning control.. thanks so much.
Hiring you was the best thing I have done for Sedona and myself." -- Bonnie H.
